STONINGTON - A 17-year-old headed the wrong way on I-95 Wednesday night caused a head-on crash that killed three people including herself, according to state police reports. Another three people were seriously injured during the crash that occurred between Exits 93 and 92 on I-95 in Stonington at around 8 p.m. All the victims of the crash are from Rhode Island, state police said. Dispatchers at state police Troop E in Montville began receiving 911 calls about a wrong-way driver headed south in the northbound lanes of I-95 past exit 93, reports said. Seconds later dispatchers received multiple calls that the wrong-way driver had crashed head on into a northbound vehicle and there were were serious injuries. The driver of the car headed the wrong way, Abigayl Lanphear, 17, of Westerly, was pronounced dead after being taken to a Rhode Island hospital, state police said. Her passenger Jada Laboy, 17, of Westerly, suffered serious injuries and was also taken to a Rhode Island hospital, police said. The driver of the other car, Roger Noel, 85, of Warwick, was pronounced dead at the scene. His front seat passenger, Dorothy Noel, 83, of Warwick, was taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in Connecticut where she was pronounced dead, reports said.
